Do you ever feel anxious for no good reason? Well, despite my best efforts to eat right and exercise regularly, I was experiencing anxiety of unknown origin! By anxiety, I mean chronic, low-level anxiety that was there on even the most stress-free days. I had some testing done and discovered my adrenal glands were all but exhausted. Since the adrenal glands make several hormones that keep us healthy and feeling good, when they are exhausted we can end up with fatigue, low libido, hypoglycemia, depression, memory problems, autoimmune disorders, and anxiety.
Unbelievably so, it can even cause you to become overly perfectionistic. I don’t know if you have heard about Enneagrams, but they are the nine possible personality types that humans express to one degree or another. Of the nine types I am a #1: the Perfectionist. Imagine that! I am, by virtue of my DNA, the ultimate perfectionist whose adrenal glands are now adding fuel to the fire! One recent article on the topic explored the connection between adrenal fatigue and’perfectionism bordering on OCD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!
What this has done for me is provided me with some insight as to why I do some of the things I do, and why I physically feel the way I feel. This has spurred me on to research the adrenal glands in great detail as well as to institute a comprehensive adrenal rejuvenation program for myself and several others suffering with the same condition. What it might do for you is to motivate you to get your own adrenal hormone levels checked. From there, you too can begin the process of recovery: a process that can lead to a more energized yet calmer body and mind, perhaps one that is not driven to perfectionistic extremes. It might get some of you questioning the anti-anxiety drugs that have been prescribed for you. It might even make you question some of the labels and diagnoses you have internalized. If nothing else, it may have you saying to your spouse. “See, honey, I’m not crazy after all!”
